7th and 8th Grade Students Visit Atlanta

Students from Batavia Middle School’s seventh and eighth grades visited sites in Atlanta, GA.

With their tour director, Pat Clark, and chaperones, Bryan Anstaett, Karen Baumann, and Cathy Crouch, the 28 students toured the southern city June 8-10, 2012.

The June 8 activities included the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Park, Ebenezer Baptist Church and gravesite of Dr. King and Coretta Scott King.  The students also visited the Georgia Aquarium.  Dining at the Hard Rock Café was a welcome treat for the evening where the serving staff interacted with the students through lively dancing and songs.  Swimming in the Doubletree Hotel pool ended the evening with a splash,

The second day found the students at the Civil War Museum to view the Cyclorama exhibit of the Battle of Atlanta.  Later that morning they toured the World of Coca-Cola and tasted many of the sixty different flavors of Coca-Cola products produced for the domestic and international markets.  A short walk through Olympic Centennial Park brought the students to CNN for lunch and the CNN Studio Tour.  They learned how news shows are produced and broadcasted by CNN worldwide.  The last stop of the day was a baseball game between the Atlanta Braves and the Toronto Blue Jays. As they entered Turner Field, each student received a Sid Bream bobblehead commemorating his 1992 winning slide at home plate to win the National League pennant.

The final morning was spent at Stone Mountain Park which included a skyride tram to the top of the mist covered granite rock, a train ride around the mountain and a 4-D theater show.
