Rachel Wahl of Batavia High School (BHS) was honored as the April Student of the Month by the Batavia...

Rachel Wahl of Batavia High School (BHS) was honored as the April Student of the Month by the Batavia Rotary Club.

“Rachel is one of the busiest students at Batavia High School,” said Felicia Grooms, BHS Guidance Counselor. “She exemplifies leadership, work ethic, and community involvement.”

Wahl is ranked in the top five percent of her class, with a weighted GPA over 4.0. She chose to take AP and Honors courses in several areas including English and Calculus, and holds herself to high academic standards in all other classes. Wahl is an active member of the student body, and works hard toward making BHS a positive school for all students.

Many activities and school projects have crossed Wahl’s path during her high school years. She has been a member of the mock trial team and science challenge team, is a member of the National Honor Society, participates as a BHS senior mentor, and is involved with Rotary Interact. Other school activities and involvement include being a member of the prom committee her junior and senior years, participating on the yearbook and school newspaper staff, and being elected class officer.

Community involvement is something that is second nature to Wahl. She has been a volunteer at Stepping Stones Camp for several years, assisting children with special needs to enjoy outdoor experiences. She also raises and shows alpacas. When not in class or involved with school and community events, Wahl works at the New Richmond Alpaca Shop and as a sales associate at Kmart.

Wahl’s future plans include deciding between the University of Tennessee or South Carolina after graduation. She plans to study engineering.

The Batavia Rotary Club recognizes one high school student from BHS each month throughout the regular school year. Students are nominated for this award for their school work and service to their community in keeping with the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self.”

The Batavia Rotary Club meets Tuesdays at 7:00 a.m. at the Hawk Building on Taylor Road, Clermont County Airport. Prospective new members and visiting Rotarians are always welcome.

Owner’s Agent:

Megen Construction is a Cincinnati firm and has been involved in a number of school projects across Ohio. We will be working closely with Evans Nwankwo, President/CEO and Frank Regueyra, Vice-President. You will find more information regarding Megen Construction and their team posted on our webpage under our New Building Project link. The role of Owner’s Agent serves as someone who represents the district’s interest by overseeing the design/construction phases of the project.

Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC):

Our building project is jointly funded by the state of Ohio with the state paying 49% of the project. Rick Swart is the Assistant Project Administrator who will be working with our team on behalf of the OFCC.

Design Phase:

We are currently in the design phase of our project. This phase of the project takes approximately 12 months. Our current timeline for total project completion is December of 2015. In the upcoming weeks we will be sharing more information regarding this phase as well as scheduling meetings with staff and community for input.

New Entrance into High School Campus:

As part of our overall project, we included a second entrance onto our project site. This entrance will be constructed off of Batavia Road, cutting across the practice fields located behind the high school. This entrance will be constructed early and will be utilized as the construction entrance for the building project.

School Safety Update:

Middle School:

Two new sets of doors have recently been installed at the middle school to make the building more secure. The first set of doors replaced the old doors at the main student entrance into the building. The second set of doors has been installed at the entrance into the office. Now when you enter the office entrance you will be buzzed into a receiving area where you will be able to talk with the secretary through an open window. If you then need to enter the office and/or building you will be buzzed through a second set of doors.

High School:

Our project architect will be working with the district to determine how we can best redesign the front entrance to make the building more secure.
