One of the new things for all school districts this year is the implementation of House Bill 410 which deals with attendance and truancy. Part of our response as a District to this law was the reduction in the number of parent excusal notes from 10 to 8 beginning this year.
As this law is implemented by hours of attendance, tardies and half day absences must now be accounted for in determining excused and unexcused absences. In order to comply with the expectations from the State, any parent excusal note, regardless of the amount of time absent, will count towards one of the eight parent notes for the school year. Anything over eight parent notes will require a doctor’s note in order to be excused.
For our high school athletes, half day absences will continue to count as unexcused per the expectations laid out in the high school handbook for participation purposes unless there is a doctor's note or extreme extenuating circumstance that has been discussed with the building administration.
